|Organiser:||In the context of the HELLENIC PRESIDENCY OF THE E.U. (1st semester 2003), the HELLENIC MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS, in co-operation with the EUROPEAN COMMISSION (Directorate-General Employment and Social Affairs), and with the support of the Committee of the Regions, the Economic and Social Committee and the European Parliament, is organising the European Forum on Local Development and Employment, in Ialissos, island of Rhodes on the 16th and 17th of May 2003.

|Description:||Objectives of the conference
The conferences aims are:
+ To discuss ways for improving implementation of the European Employment Strategy in an enlarged Union, via an increased emphasis on its regional and local dimension and better articulation among the various levels of government.
+ To highlight the contribution of better governance in promoting employment, improving quality of life and work, and enhancing democratic participation at regional and local levels.
+ To underline the importance of developing employment at regional and local level for promoting gender equality and combating exclusion.
+ To facilitate new member states to incorporate valuable examples accrued from the existing experience in local Employment Development to their own employment policies.
+ To present and discuss the acquired experience emanating from the creation and development of local partnerships at European and International level, as well as to present tools and mechanisms of funding.
