| Description: | The OECD LEED Programme is organising a major conference hosted by the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy in the framework of its project on clusters of small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in transition economies in conjunction with the Central European Initiative and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This East West Cluster Summit is held in the spirit of the Bologna Charter on SME Policies (OECD June 2000) recognising the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises and clusters in economic growth and job creation. The East West Cluster Summit will bring together participants from western, central and eastern Europe, as well as international interlocutors. It will include two days of industrial district study visits to highlight the economic potential and benefits of clusters. During the remaining two days, the role of SME clusters in transition economies, as well as the internationalisation of clusters in the world economy, the role of social capital and innovation will be discussed. Conference participants will be staying in Grado, a seaside resort near Trieste. |
